Happy Mother's Day!
I almost forgot!  I have been so busy getting ready for Sewing with Nancy and Spring Market that I nearly forgot Mother's Day.  I like to run Getting Amazing Results in the first position because the photo we used is of my mother, Phyllis May Libby - who died 51 years ago on May 6th.  Because she died so suddenly and tragically and so close to Mother's Day, it has always been a somber holiday.  Today, May 10th would have been my grandmother's 101st birthday - had she lived past her 69th birthday.  Was she a terrific quilter, sewer, fabulous home cook and one heck of a business partner!  She held my grandfather's business together and had time to make me everything I could dream up.  After the untimely death of my mother, my paternal grandmother became a major fixture in my life.  She and I shared all the same interests, and to this day I am interested in the same things we used to do together.  She thought the notion of my becoming a television producer or filmmaker was a little far fetched, but other than that she supported my every whim.  It was she - although I always gave credit to my grandfather- who instilled an entrepreneurial spirit.  She taught me the idea of taking something from concept to creation.   Quilters TV and SewOnTV would have not even entered my head if it were not for the thousands of hours spent with my grandmother in her sewing area.  I have to admit, I have fabric in my stash that we bought together that I cannot bear to cut into (I am sure there is therapy for that somewhere!).
My stepmom, Johanne, was also a big influence in my love of craft and handmade things.  She was always making new things and learning new techniques.  It was from her that I got the idea that learning did not stop as soon as school was over.  She has also passed away (1978), but I remember fondly how much satisfaction she got out of the "Fad of the Month" crafting club and reading the crafting and woman's magazines for ideas.
So...to all the mothers in QTV land, I salute you and hope you have as much satisfaction creating your love gifts as I do!
Fondly,
Sue Ann Taylor
